Tips for subscribing and using the list

A note about spam settings. Some spam settings will block messages from the list. This can be cured by adding wapg.org to your allowed senders. If you click to subscribe and do not get a reply right away, look in your junk mail.
About "Reply All" Many people just automatically use the "reply" button to respond to a message. This causes the reply to go only to the poster of the original message, depriving the rest of us of the exchange. Please use "Reply All"  unless you intend the message to be private.
Subscribing

To join you click as directed. This will generate  message in your default e-mail program. All that is necessary is to "Send" the message. No magic words required.

You will then exchange a couple of messages with a robot. All you need to do is to hit your "Reply" and "Send" buttons. The robot's writing style does not make this very clear. The purpose of this exchange is to protect your privacy, The second confirming and welcome message may take one or two business days to arrive.

Introduce yourself As soon as you receive the confirmation of your subscription, you are requested to introduce yourself to the list and include your contact information. Otherwise the only information we will have for you is your e-mail address.

It is polite to include your name on all messages you post to the list

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a discussion list?

A discussion list (aka Listserv) is a way for groups of people to communicate using e-mail. Once one is subscribed, it is strictly an e-mail experience.

Any message sent by a subscriber to the discussion list is automatically sent to all other members. Members can reply privately to the sender or, preferably, to the entire list.

Who will get list messages?

Initially, the list will be open only to people who are Certified Professional Guardians. Subscribers to the list may choose to open the list to others like lawyers, and other allied professionals. A list of subscribers will be made available upon request.

Are there privacy concerns?

Yes, this is the internet. Like any other e-mail, anyone who receives it can do whatever they want with it. The rules of the list are that messages are not supposed to be forwarded without permission of the originator of the message. List members who flout the rules can be removed from the list.

Who manages the list?

Tom O’Brien, tomob@proguard.org.

Is there virus protection?

There is no extra virus protection. The settings on your computer to screen for viruses will apply to messages from the list just like any other email.

What etiquette applies?

Don’t get too personal.
Don’t make too many inside jokes that others won’t get.
Don’t say anything you would be embarrassed to have spread around.
Don’t send unsubscribe or other administrative requests to the list, look at the footer of each message for how to do that.
Don’t forward message outside the list without permission of the originator.
Don't violate confidences about clients or anyone else.

Do post questions and comments,
Do use "reply all" instead of "reply" (usually).
Do state your name on all posts to the list.
